One county, five towns, and plenty of land between them

What a house goes through while its owner is away depends on where in the county it stands. Each town has its own photo guide on FlaglerPropertyWatch.com.

  1. Palm Coast

The biggest city in the county, laid out as a planned community. Saltwater canals thread its eastern side, and the sections west of I-95 are greener and more wooded.

  2. Flagler Beach

A small beach town on the barrier island, with A1A running beside the dunes and the pier at the foot of Moody Boulevard.

  3. Bunnell

The county seat, inland on US 1. Leave the middle of town and the lots get wider and the driveways longer.

  4. Beverly Beach

A small town on A1A just north of Flagler Beach, with the ocean on one side of the road and the Intracoastal on the other.

  5. Marineland

The county's northern tip: a few streets on A1A where Flagler meets St. Johns County.

  6. Outside the city limits

Much of the county belongs to no town at all: the Hammock on the barrier island, and the farm and timber land to the west.

What the county does to a house while you are away

Flagler County is a long stretch of Atlantic coast between St. Johns County and Volusia County, reaching inland past I-95 and US 1. What a closed-up house goes through depends on where in it you are, and on the time of year.

Pictures on a known date turn a vague worry into something you can act on: a call to the lawn crew, a tree service, or nobody at all.

Summer
Afternoon thunderstorms and long hot days make a lawn grow quickly. A yard that was tidy in May can look shaggy by July if the mowing stops.
Hurricane season
It runs from June 1 to November 30. A set of pictures before a storm and another once the roads reopen gives you two dated views of the outside.
Near the water
Salt air off the ocean and the Intracoastal is hard on paint, screens and metal, slowly enough that dated pictures show it better than memory does.
Under the trees
Inland, pines and live oaks drop limbs, cones and leaves onto roofs and driveways after a windy week.
